Undergraduate Subjects

Biochemistry

We have a thriving Biochemistry group which, at any one time, usually consists of about 16 undergraduates (usually 4 per year group).

Biology

St Catherine’s has one of the largest Biological Sciences departments with around eight students each year.

Biomedical Sciences

St Catherine’s has a large and integrated community of undergraduates within the Medical Sciences Division, studying Biomedical Sciences, Experimental Psychology, Medicine and Philosophy, Psychology & Linguistics.

Chemistry

St Catherine’s has a large and historic commitment to Chemistry in comparison with many other Oxford colleges.

Computer Science

We are one of the largest colleges in Oxford for Computer Science, with 27 students due to be studying Computer Science or one of its joint schools in 2018-19.

Computer Science & Philosophy

Computer Science and Philosophy is a new degree at Oxford, combining aspects of the two constituent subjects. 

Economics & Management

St Catherine’s was among the first group of colleges to admit undergraduates for the Economics and Management degree.

Engineering Science

St Catherine’s has one of the largest Engineering Science departments with around eight students each year.

English & Modern Languages

St Catherine's has a large number of undergraduates studying English or Modern Languages in combination with other subjects.

English Language and Literature

St Catherine’s has a large and enthusiastic English department.

Fine Art

St Catherine's has a strong tradition of interest in art and design, natural concerns in the context of world famous and award-winning buildings.

Geography

Geography is one of the largest subjects at St Catherine’s and aims to admit 10 undergraduates each year.

History

History is large and vigorous field with the College. At any one time, St Catherine’s has about thirty undergraduates reading History, independently or as part of a joint degree.

History of Art

The College has been an active promoter of the History of Art course, and usually takes three undergraduates each year.

Human Sciences

St Catherine’s boasts one of the friendliest Human Sciences departments in the university, with around four students in each year group.

Law (Jurisprudence)

St Catherine's has a vibrant legal community attributable in part to the fact that the College admits a greater number of students to study the subject in comparison with most other colleges.

Materials Science

The College has a strong tradition in Materials Science, with one of the larger undergraduate intakes as well as a healthy number of graduate students.

Mathematics

St Catherine’s accepts applicants for Mathematics or any of the joint degrees available at the University: Mathematics & Statistics; Mathematics & Computer Science and Mathematics & Philosophy.

Medicine

Medical Sciences at St Catherine’s is a large, friendly community with on average six undergraduates per year studying on the three-year pre-clinical course, culminating in a first degree in Medical Sciences.

We admit up to 10 students each year, making us the largest undergraduate subject in College and making Catz one of the most important Oxford colleges for Modern Languages.

We admit up to 10-12 students each year for Modern Languages, making us the largest undergraduate subject in College and making Catz one of the most important Oxford colleges for Modern Languages.

Music

St Catherine’s has one of the larger college Music departments, with an intake of around four new students per year.

Philosophy & Modern Languages

St Catherine's has a large number of undergraduates studying Philosophy or Modern Languages in combination with other subjects.

The College also has a thriving community of graduates working in economics, politics and other related subjects.

Physics

The community of physics students and fellows at St Catherine's is one of the largest and liveliest in the University.

Psychology (Experimental)

Experimental Psychology is by definition a highly interdisciplinary subject, with teaching and research spanning from Social Psychology and Intergroup Conflict to Behavioural Neuroscience.

Psychology, Philosophy & Linguistics

St Catherine's is one of the few colleges with a representation of a Tutorial Fellow in each of the three components of the Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics degree.
