Geography

Geography is one of the largest subjects at St Catherine’s and aims to admit 10 undergraduates each year.

Our results in final examinations over the past few years have been extremely good, and well above the subject average for the University as a whole.

We have tutorial fellows and several lecturers who are highly research-active in human, physical and environmental geography, and have a passion for teaching across the whole discipline. This enables us to meet the needs of individual students, whatever their interests.

Our tutors have recently held, and continue to hold, many of the key teaching and organisation roles within the Geography department, including Chair of Admissions, Chair of Final Honours School Examinations and Director of Undergraduate Studies.

The geographers at Catz benefit from one of the best collections of geography books of any college library.

The College has unrivalled teaching facilities and in keeping with its modern architecture, provides a friendly and informal environment within which to work.

The Geography students also run an active Geography Society which hosts invited speakers and related social events.

Geography students from Catz have gone on to a wide range of successful careers; as academic researchers, international charity co-ordinators, lawyers, teachers, bankers and civil servants amongst others, and both the academic environment and the potential career paths of current students is actively supported by our strong network of former students.
