Sporting success for Catz!

On 1 May, the delayed Blues Football Varsity match saw the Oxford Men’s Blues win for the third year in a row, with the team led by Catz student, Captain Finlay Ryan-Phillips. Catz was also represented by returning Blue Nathaniel Downes and newcomer Aleksander Milchev. After a tense first half that equalised at 0-0, Oxford triumphantly defeated Cambridge 2-0 in the second half.

The joint St Catz-Worcester team won the Women’s Rugby Cuppers Final on 7 May, beating Corpus Christi 17-15. Congratulations to Catz players Florence Baker Masters, Maddy Kawalenko, Maria Watt, Sylvia Greene and Daisy Connolly.

Catz also saw success in the Varsity American Football match, with Oxford beating Cambridge 41-7. Catz was represented by players Joel Chesters (QB), Aari Shah, Kalani Bassi, Harun Shekoni, and Sam Ghali. Notable moments included rushing touchdowns by Joel, a 70-yard passing touchdown from Joel to Aari Shah, a receiving touchdown to Joel on the last play of the game, and Harun’s sacking of the Cambridge QB.

Congrats to all our players on such exciting games!

And of course, members from all parts of the Catz community, including Fellows, students, staff, alumni, and our Master, ran in the 2023 Town & Gown 10k, which fundraises for Muscular Dystrophy UK. After the race, runners enjoyed the sunny weather with drinks and lunch in the Master’s garden. Congratulations and thank you to all who ran with us this year.
