The final session in the programme, Point 4, takes place when students are in year 12. This session is university admissions focused, and covers information such as making choices on UCAS, writing a personal statement, and preparing for additional steps such as admissions tests or interviews. This session is a great opportunity for students to ask any questions they have about their own applications and decisions, whether they have already started the process or are not sure where to begin.
Over 90% of year 12 students who attended this two-hour workshop with us said that they felt comfortable applying to universities, compared to just 37% before the session. We were able to equip students with knowledge of application processes for competitive universities like Oxford, with 95-99% of students understanding each stage of the admissions process (such as personal statement, admissions tests and interviews) after a single session, compared to an average of 42% before intervention. Qualitative feedback suggests that students had more confidence in themselves and pursuing places at top universities such as Oxford after interactions with us. This will hopefully translate into outcomes of these students being able to go on to successfully apply to and secure places at top universities should they choose to do so – in future years we should have more data back to support this assumption.
