Professor Ben Bollig in discussion of Garsington Opera’s new production

In anticipation of Garsington Opera’s latest production ‘The Skating Rink’, our Fellow in Spanish Ben Bollig will be offering his expertise in a discussion of its source text, a novel by Chilean author Roberto Bolaño.

Garsington Opera is an annual summer opera festival held at Wormsley Park, home to Catz alumnus and Honorary Fellow Mark Getty (1980, PPE), and throughout July they will be presenting the world premiere performances of this gripping new commission. Written by leading British composer David Sawer and award-winning playwright Rory Mullarkey, it has been based on the prize-winning 1993 novel La pista de hielo by Chilean author Robert Bolaño.

At an event next Tuesday, 26 June, Ben will be speaking about La pista de hielo, as well as the importance of Bolaño’s work within the wider context of contemporary Latin American Literature, before joining in conversation with Professor Philip Bullock, Fellow in Russian at Wadham College.

Supported by TORCH (the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities) and held in collaboration with Creative Multilingualism, the lunchtime event will take place at the Radcliffe Humanities Building.
