Catz team on University Challenge

A team from St Catherine’s appeared on the long-running television quiz show University Challenge last night (1 November).

The team, made up of four of the College’s students, took on Jesus College, Cambridge in the first-round match.

The Catz team comprised:

  • Thomas Laskowski (History)
  • Peter Olive (Classics)
  • Hollie Partis (English and French)
  • Oliver Spacey (Biology) – Captain

The match finished with Jesus College on 225 and Catz on 105, meaning that Catz doesn’t progress to the next round.

On taking part, Captain Oliver Spacey said: ‘From the trials to the practices, from the auditions to the studio, being on University Challenge was a highlight of my time at Catz.

‘Throughout both years in which I was lucky enough to be on the Catz team, the best thing was having a laugh with the rest of the team, doing a bit of trivia in the evenings, and everything else was a bonus.’

University Challenge first aired in the UK in 1962 and sees teams of students from universities across the country competing to win the title for that academic year.

This was the first team from Catz to appear on the programme since 1997, when they faced Magdalene College, Cambridge.

You can watch the episode again on BBC iPlayer (you must be in the UK to access).
