Catz’s unique architecture features on design programme
The architecture of St Catherine’s, by famed Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, has this week featured on an episode of Monocle on Design.
The episode delves into the College’s original 1960s architecture and the team behind it, led by Jacobsen.
Talking to a member of the original project team, Peter Denny, the show reveals how other Oxford colleges influenced the style of the buildings’ layout – and which of them impressed him the most.
The show also talks with Stephen Hodder, architect of a phase built in the early 2000s, about how he succeeded in making that modern phase sympathetic to the 1960s buildings.
You can listen to the episode online.
The interviews were conducted in advance of a conference being held in College to celebrate 60 years of its founding.
Monocle on Design is a weekly review of design, architecture and craft on Monocle 24, the online radio arm of Monocle magazine.
