Catz researcher to curate exhibition of colonial-era images

Shalini Amerasinghe Ganendra, Research Associate at Catz and Associate Academic at the University’s Department of History of Art, is curating an exhibition of colonial images at the Museum of Oxford, due to open in September 2022.

Entitled Image and Identity, the exhibition will display photographs taken in the British colonial era. It aims to foster discovery, connection and continuing interest in the images from this period, and their influence on the contemporary.

In conjunction with the Museum of Oxford exhibition, a satellite exhibition will be hosted at Catz, sharing photographs from the time.

We’re inviting you to submit any photographs you may have from the period 1845-1950. These may then be chosen to feature in the digital display in the College’s Ainsworth Graduate Centre.

How to take part
If you have images and would like to submit them for the exhibition, please email scans or digital copies to development.office@stcatz.ox.ac.uk before 1 March 2022. Please include a brief explanation of who features in the photograph, and where and when it was taken (if known), along with any related short narratives.

Please do not send original (physical) copies. Any images submitted may or may not be used for the exhibition, and a copy will be kept in the College’s archive.
