Lord Victor Olufemi Adebowale, CBE elected as Visitor of St Catherine’s College
St Catherine’s College is delighted to announce the election of Lord Victor Olufemi Adebowale, CBE as Visitor of the College.
Lord Adebowale is the Chair of the NHS Confederation and a crossbench member of the House of Lords, having been one of the first individuals to become a ‘People’s Peer’. He was awarded a CBE for services to the New Deal, the unemployed and homeless young people, and has campaigned against health inequalities for many years. Previously, he was the CEO of Turning Point, served on the board of NHS England, and was Chancellor of the University of Lincoln.
The Master, Professor Kersti Börjars says, ‘I am delighted that Lord Adebowale will serve as our Visitor. We feel the strong sense of social responsibility and equality of opportunity that he displays through all that he does aligns well with the values of the College.’
Lord Adebowale says, ‘I’m delighted and honoured to be selected as only the second visitor to the college after HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. This is a college doing inspiring work with energetic staff and students and I look forward to being part of this community.’
Lord Adebowale is the College’s second Visitor, after His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, who had served as Visitor since the foundation of the College in 1962.
