Honorary Fellow Masaki Orita awarded Japanese order

St Catz Alumnus and Honorary Fellow, Professor Masaki Orita, was recently decorated by HM the Emperor of Japan for his 40 years’ service in the Foreign Office. Masaki was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Star (2nd class), an honour awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in civil or military service.

Masaki is a Japanese lawyer specialising in international law, and serves on the board of directors of the NGO Japan Center for Conflict Prevention. During his career, he has served as Director-General of the North American Affairs Burearu of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Japanese Ambassador to Denmark, Lithuania and the UK, and as Special Envoy for UN Reform on behalf of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
