Eleanor Stride awarded OBE

St Catherine’s Fellow, Professor Eleanor Stride, has been awarded an OBE in the 2021 New Year Honours list, for services to Engineering.

Eleanor, who has been a Fellow of St Catherine’s since 2011, is Statutory Professor of Biomaterials in the Department of Engineering Science and the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences.

She is part of the Biomedical Ultrasonics, Biotherapy and Biopharmaceutical Laboratory (BUBBL) in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and her research focuses on nano and micro devices for targeted drug delivery systems.

Commenting on the award, Eleanor said: ‘It was the most incredible and wonderful surprise.

‘I still feel quite overwhelmed but also even more motivated to drive forward our research and to continue to work closely with the Royal Academy to support and promote Engineering.’

The honour comes on top of the recent awarding of an Honorary Fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in October 2020. Eleanor has also been nominated one of the top 100 most influential Women in Engineering in both 2016 and 2019 and was, in 2017, made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, in addition to a string of other, earlier accolades.

Professor Stride lectures undergraduate Engineering Science students at St Catherine’s, as well as supervising a number of Masters and DPhil students.
