Dr Tim Stone CBE Appointed Chair of the Nuclear Industry Association
The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), the trade association for the UK’s civil nuclear industry, announced this week that Catz alumnus Dr Tim Stone CBE (1969, Chemistry) has been appointed as their new Chair. The NIA exists to be the voice of the UK’s civil nuclear industry, representing more than 250 companies across the supply chain, with a diverse range of member companies enabling effective and constructive industry-wide interaction.
Dr Stone has a wealth of experience in infrastructure, nuclear power and finance, with several years’ experience working closely with government and industry in a variety of roles. He is a non-executive director of both the Arup Group board and Horizon Nuclear Power. He will take on the role of Chair of the NIA in December this year, succeeding Lord John Hutton.
Of the appointment, Dr Stone commented: ‘I’m delighted to have been asked to become the NIA’s new Chairman. It’s a pivotal time for the industry, with a wide-ranging and ambitious sector deal to implement, a new build programme underway, important export opportunities and domestic work for our world-leading civil nuclear supply chain.
‘I look forward to working with all NIA member companies to advance the interests of our industry, and to help support trust and confidence that the UK can deliver and satisfy the clear need to ensure nuclear remains a key part of the UK’s future low carbon power mix. We need to make this happen for the future of our children and grandchildren.’
We are delighted that Dr Stone will be one of a number of distinguished alumni speaking at our 150th Anniversary Weekend in college on 14 – 15 September 2019. He will be discussing the challenges of tackling climate change. Visit our Event page for more details, and save the date!
