Dr Linda Geaves, ‘A Vision of the Rewilded Mind in the Advent of the Post-Anthropogenic’

St Catherine’s College proudly presents the third talk in the Michaelmas edition of ‘Catz In Conversation’ – our all-new webinar series by alumni, for everyone.

On Thursday, 11th December, Dr Linda Geaves (2010, Geography & the Environment) will present her talk ‘A Vision of the Rewilded Mind in the Advent of the Post-Anthropogenic.’ Bringing a thought-provoking perspective to the evolving landscape of human cognition and the impact of new technologies, this talk will explore the various ways in which we are adapting to new digital environments, and provide some perspectives on how these interactions could reshape attention, creativity, and methods of meaning-making.

Dr Linda Geaves will consider the broader implications of these cognitive shifts – including the all-important question of how our understanding of identity and communication will evolve in tandem with technological changes. Attendees will gain insight into the complex interplay between historical cognitive patterns and emerging digital possibilities, highlighting both the opportunities and the challenges of navigating this rapidly transforming landscape.

Dr Linda Geaves

Dr Linda Geaves (2010, Geography & the Environment) is an environmental scientist whose essential work explores the complex interplay between human behaviour, natural systems, and societal resilience. Her research focuses on decision-making and the development of tools and resources which allow us to understand how our choices – and the choices of those around us – affect both the physical environment and social trends. Throughout her impressive career, Linda has combined practical modelling with theoretical insight to provide transparent, equitable, and actionable insights across risk management and related fields.

Linda grew up in Milton Keynes, where she witnessed the city’s innovative water-management infrastructure. Ever since, she has been fascinated by the ways in which human design interacts with natural processes, and she has produced a range of papers, talks, and resources to this end, including multiple important works on flood risk management and action groups. Her curiosity has culminated in a research programme which examines environmental dynamics, knowledge sharing, and collective decision-making.

When she isn’t modelling complex environmental systems or exploring human-environment interactions, Dr Geaves enjoys engaging with nature, reading widely about her field, and exploring the innovative ways we can use technology for social benefit.

Whether you work in science, planning, or are simply interested in how society manages environmental risk, this talk will offer a unique window into the ever-evolving dynamics of resilience and decision-making. You are warmly welcome to book your place now!
