Diwali Celebrations 2024
This Michaelmas, the St Catz Ethnic Minorities Society hosted a Diwali formal and afterparty in the JCR. With performances from different university groups, this sold-out event celebrated the festival of lights with the Catz student community out in full force.
Our thanks go to Livleen and Charlie, the current JCR Ethnic Minorities reps, for organising; to Oxford Bollywood, Oxford Bhangra, Oxford Tamil Society and LSC Soundz for the afterparty entertainment; and to Oxford South Asian Arts for the photography and videography. Some of the profits from drinks sold were donated to the family of Catz’s previous Ethnic Minorities Rep, Antonio Gato.
Here is a special note from our JCR Ethnic Minorites Reps about the event:
As the Ethnic Minorities Representatives, we were thrilled to see the sheer energy that was brought to Catz’s very first Diwali Formal and Afterparty! Showcasing diversity and culture at Catz is something that Charlie and I are extremely passionate about. Thank you to everyone who helped make this night memorable: from our Entz, Arts, Music and Welfare Reps, to Oxford’s Bollywood, Bhangra and Gaana dance teams and the LSC Soundz’s dhol players. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed hosting events for our society this term: look out for our Lunar New Year celebrations in Hilary Term, it certainly won’t be one to be missed 🙂 We’re also looking for Catz alumni who are of ethnic minority backgrounds to take part in two thematic talks, one in Hilary and the other in Trinity Term. If you are of interested in taking part in these talks please email us at:

See you next term!
Your Ethnic Minorities Reps,
Livleen & Charlie
