Dean Kitchin Virtual Event

Gervase Rosser, Professor of the History of Art and Fellow at St Catherine’s College, will give a talk titled The Icon of St Catherine in the College Library exclusively for Legators to St Catz.

Presiding over readers in the College Library is an image of St Catherine, indomitable woman and patron of learning. The picture is an icon, made in Crete and testimony to cultural cross-currents in the seventeenth-century Mediterranean. It is an object which speaks to us as alumni and friends of St Catherine’s College and as we consider the complexity of Mediterranean cultures in our own day.

This talk will offer an introduction to the icon and will be followed by a question and answer session.
