Catz Appoints New Fulford Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science
St Catherine’s College is delighted to announce the appointment of the Fulford Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science, Dr. Carlotta Pavese.
Originally from Italy, Carlotta studied Philosophy and History in Turin as an undergraduate, before moving to the United States to complete an MA and a PhD. Carlotta was a Bersoff Fellow at New York University in 2013—14, and an Assistant Professor at Duke University in 2014—19. Since 2019, Carlotta has been an Associate Professor of Philosophy and a Field Member in Cognitive Science at Cornell University.
Carlotta has wide-ranging philosophical and academic interests. Since completing her PhD, Carlotta has published in epistemology, philosophy of language & linguistics, ancient philosophy, action theory, and philosophy of mind and of cognitive science. She remains interested in the nature of skills and skilled action, an interest that has latterly culminated in the edition of a Routledge Handbook on the same topic and in the completion of a monograph – The Practical Mind. Skills, Knowledge, and Intelligence – which is currently in print with Cambridge University Press.
The Senior Tutor, Professor Andrew Dickinson, comments: “The College is very happy to have elected Dr Carlotta Pavese and Dr Nomi Dave as our new Tutorial Fellows in Philosophy and Music respectively. We look forward to welcoming them at the start of the new academic year, when they will take up their posts and formally join the Fellowship. We are exceptionally grateful to the Laces Trust and to Catz alumnus and current legator, Dr Anthony Henfrey CFA, for their generous support in endowing these Fellowships.”
The Master, Jude Kelly CBE, adds: “Carlotta will be a most exciting addition to our Fellowship. Her research is fascinating, with a great practical application.”
