Catz Alumna, Caroline Bird, wins the Forward Poetry Prize for Best Collection

We are delighted to announce that Caroline Bird (2007, English Language and Literature), Catz alumna, has won the 2020 Forward Poetry Prize for Best Collection, for her collection The Air Year.

Caroline Bird was announced as the winner of the main prize at a virtual ceremony hosted by the British Library on 25th October.

Caroline Bird read English Language and Literature at St Catherine’s College, graduating in 2011. The Air Bird, named for the first 12 months of a relationship before the “paper” anniversary, was Caroline’s sixth collection of poetry to be published by Carcanet.

Her first collection of poetry, Looking Through Letterboxes, was published in 2002, when Caroline was aged 15. As well as writing poetry, Caroline has written a number of plays including the Trial of Dennis the Menace, and her radical version of the Trojan Woman.
