Catz Alumna wins Costa Children’s Book Award 2017

We are delighted to announce that Catz alumna Katherine Rundell (2005, English Language and Literature) has won the 2017 Costa Children’s Book Award for her novel The Explorer.

Set in the Amazon rainforest where four children must struggle for survival after crash-landing, the book has been called ‘a modern classic of adventure, survival and friendship’, and Costa book award judges commented that it was ‘A glorious read and a timeless voyage of wonder that will be enjoyed by readers aged 8 to 80.’

Taking to Twitter after the winners were announced, Katherine said: ‘I’m so stunned and thrilled and wildly honoured that The Explorer has won the Costa Children’s Book Award. It was a superb shortlist and I know it will have been the closest of close calls.’
