Alumnus appointed Governor of Montserrat

Andrew Pearce OBE (1979, Chemistry) was recently appointed Governor of Montserrat, his latest posting in his 30 years of service for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Accompanied by his family, Andrew arrived on the Caribbean island on 1st February 2018, and was welcomed with a parade before being sworn in during a special sitting of the Legislative Assembly. He is set to serve as Governor for a three year period initially.

In a statement following his first day in the role, Andrew said:

“As I conclude my first day as Governor I just wanted to say how delighted I am to be here. My family and I, along with our cats, have travelled and worked all over the world. But the island’s beauty and the famous Montserratian warmth we’ve heard so much about have been something else. We were especially charmed by yesterday’s ceremony and parade; we certainly got a first feel for how special Montserratians are. We are so grateful for such a warm and open welcome.”
