Catz Honorary Fellow appointed to the Court of Appeal
St Catherine’s College is delighted to announce that The Honorable Mr Justice Ian Dove (1982, Law) has been appointed to the Court of Appeal as Lord Justice of Appeal, having served as a Justice of the High Court (King’s Bench Division) since 2014.
Sir Ian came up in 1982 to read Law under the tutelage of Derek Davies and Erik Barendt, before being called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1986 and taking silk in 2003. He was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the College in 2016, following his appointment to the High Court Bench. During his judicial career, Sir Ian has served as a Presiding Judge on the Northern Circuit from 2018 to 2021, as President of the Upper Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber from 2022, and as Deputy Senior President of Tribunals from 2025.
We extend the warmest congratulations to Sir Ian Dove for this honour. Professor Andrew Dickinson, Senior Tutor and Fellow in Law, notes: “Sir Ian was the first student of the College to be appointed as a High Court Judge, and now becomes the first to be appointed to serve in the Court of Appeal. We are delighted that his expertise, particularly in matters of public law, has been recognised in what is a highly competitive process.”
