Catz Men’s FC score First Ever Cuppers’ Victory
In a landmark moment in Catz sporting history, Catz Men’s FC scored a victory against Keble College, securing the first ever Football Cuppers win for the College.
Captain Matthew Sedgwick (2023, Geography) led an exceptional performance, setting the standards from the first minute of play. Whilst the team went into a 1-0 lead by halftime, the second half saw Catz Men’s FC levelling with Keble. Despite some Catz substitutions soon turning the momentum of the match, the score was still 1-1 when the final whistle sounded.
The ensuing penalty shoot-out was one of high stakes. Before leaving the net, Catz Vice-Captain Christopher Martin-Wright (2023, Biology) set up a winning penalty for club veteran Alexander Milchev (2020, Computer Science). Suddenly, the result was inevitable; and frenzy ensued once the Catz ball hit the back of the net.
Subsequent and surreal celebrations were heard across the pitch. All in all, this has been a stunning and lifetime victory for the Catz JCR, and a moment of immense pride for past and future Catz Men’s FC members.
The victorious team were invited to celebrate their success with the Master, Jude Kelly CBE, later in Trinity Term.
