Dr Daniel Wichelhaus – ‘Leadership In Adverse Environments: Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation’

Leadership is a multifaceted process, with three core dimensions: leading organisations, leading people, and leading oneself. Each of these requires a unique focus. However, the process of leadership remains consistent across all three dimensions: observe, assess, and act. This ongoing cycle informs effective leadership decisions and actions.

In this talk, Professor Daniel Wichelhaus will focus on “leading people” and explore key psychological models that support leadership, such as the Employee Maturity Model (K. Blanchard), Resilience Theory (V. Frankl), and motivation theories from R. Sprenger and D. Kahneman. These models also provide insights into leadership tasks, including reflection, decision-making, and communication, while also clarifying the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations.

Professor Daniel Wichelhaus (1988, Clinical Medicine) is Professor for Business and Administration at Hanover University of Applied Sciences, where his specialties are “economics for people who hate economics” and “leadership in hostile environments.” He has studied Medicine, Biochemistry, and Economics in Munich, Hagen, Vienna, Paris, and Madrid. At Catz, he read postgraduate Clinical Medicine. He worked in Paediatrics at Düsseldorf University Hospital, was a consultant with Roland Berger and Horváth & Partners, and was CEO of Hanover School of Health Management Ltd., an affiliated company of Medical School of Hanover.
