The Bi-Annual John Simopoulos Private Dinner
This biannual dinner, held during the Trinity and Michaelmas terms and hosted by the Dean, is in memory of the late John Simopoulos, former Philosophy Fellow at St Catherine’s College (Catz). The event is generously funded by alumni Michael and Debbie Ullmann.
John Simopoulos, who passed away at the age of 91, was a founding Fellow, Tutor in Philosophy, and long-serving Dean of Degrees at St Catherine’s College, Oxford. Known for his old-school don-like eccentricities, he left a lasting impression on generations of students.
Simopoulos was one of four permanent academic staff when the St Catherine’s Society was founded in 1952, and in 1960, he became a founding Fellow when the society transitioned into a college. A dedicated advocate for the college, he introduced reading parties to balance the strong rugby culture that prevailed during its time as an all-male institution.
*An exclusive dinner for past students of John Simopoulos and specially invited guests, by invitation only.
