Prime Minister Visits Catz Alumnus Start-up in USA

Prime Minister David Cameron today visited the premises of 1776, a firm which was co-founded in 2013 by Catz alumnus Evan Burfield (2002, PPE). Based in Washington D.C., 1776 is a platform designed to connect start-ups with the resources that they need to excel.

Attending a breakfast meeting on cyber security, the Prime Minister took a brief tour of 1776, which acts as a business incubator and investment fund to guide early-stage ventures in sectors like energy, education, and health care that often go on to work with governments.

The Master, Professor Roger Ainsworth, said ‘The 2014 Finalists deserve our warmest congratulations on their much deserved success. They should be very proud of all that they have achieved. Their results are a fine tribute not only to their own hard work, but to the supportive and inspirational teaching given by their tutors. Many congratulations to all!’

Freedom of Oxford for Catz Alumnus

Alumnus and Honorary Fellow Professor Christopher Brown (1966, Modern History), Director of the Ashmolean Museum, has been awarded the Freedom of the City of Oxford to mark his retirement - one of just a small number of people to have been awarded this honour

The Lord Mayor of Oxford presented him with a ceremonial scroll at a ceremony held in Oxford Town Hall on 2 July 2014. The Freedom of the City of Oxford is awarded under two categories – persons of distinction or persons who have, in the opinion of the council, rendered eminent services to the city.
