Stipendiary Lecturership in Philosophy – closing date 25 September
St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a three-hour College Lecturer in Philosophy, with effect from 4 October 2023. The Lecturership will be for one year in the first instance.
The Lecturer will be expected to teach three weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). The post-holder will be responsible for teaching Logic for the Preliminary Examination (first-year course) and for assisting with teaching philosophical writing to first years. In addition, with Professor Philipp Koralus, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Philosophy in the College, including arranging tuition in Philosophy, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to the Director of Studies for Philosophy, Professor Philipp Koralus (email: philipp.koralus@stcatz.ox.ac.uk).
The annual stipend for three terms is currently £7,551 and is pensionable. An additional retainer of £115.64 will be payable termly, and the hours which the Lecturer teaches in excess of two hours per week will be paid at the Senior Tutors’ Committee rates (currently £28.91 per hour), with payment due being calculated at the end of each academic year. Teaching/seminar rooms are available for booking within College.
More details can be found in the Further Particulars.
Applications should be sent, in a single file, by email to the Master’s Office (Email: masters.office@stcatz.ox.ac.uk) to arrive not later than noon on Monday 25 September 2023.
