Tax-Effective Giving

Tax-Effective Giving

‘St Catherine's College in the University of Oxford’ is a Registered Charity (No. 1143817) in the United Kingdom. US residents can give to St Catz tax effectively through Americans for Oxford. It is also possible to make tax efficient donations from a number of other locations worldwide, including Germany, Canada and Hong Kong.

If you pay tax in the UK, then Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your gift to St Catherine’s. Using Gift Aid will allow us to reclaim the basic rate tax on your gift, increasing the value of your donation by 25%. This means that if you give £100 using Gift Aid in the tax year 2012-13, your gift is worth £125 to the College. Gift Aid can be applied to donations made by cash, cheque, direct debit, and credit/debit card.

In order for your donations to be eligible for Gift Aid, you must have paid an amount of Income and/or Capital Gains Tax that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year.

Tax Advantages for Higher Rate Taxpayers

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim back the difference between the higher rate of tax and the basic rate on your gross Gift Aid donation. Further information can be found here.
