Marc Lackenby

Marc Lackenby has been a Tutorial Fellow at St Catherine's since 1999, and was promoted to Professor in 2006. He teaches Pure Mathematics in college, and contributes extensively to lectures and classes in the Mathematical Institute.

His research interests lie in topology, geometry and group theory. His work focuses on 3-dimensional spaces, which are currently a very active area of research internationally. These have links to many different branches of mathematics, including non-Euclidean geometry and geometric group theory. In 2003, he was awarded a Whitehead Prize by the London Mathematical Society. In 2004, he became an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow. In 2006, he was awarded Philip Leverhulme Prize. He received an Excellence in Teaching Award in the same year.
