College Life

Modern and ambitious, Catz is the youngest of the undergraduate colleges and also one of the largest. More and more people are attracted by its liberal environment, its excellent entz and its friendly student body which is divided into the JCR (undergraduates) and MCR (post-graduates). The over-riding atmosphere at Catz is one of energy. Its students are friendly and out-going, and throw themselves into everything they do. Catz students are as likely to be found on the sports pitch or on the river, on the stage, in the debating chamber or concert hall as in the college bar or library. Societies and clubs covering almost every interest one can think of exist at St Catherine's. Academically, Catz's large size is a major advantage. The diverse range of subjects which are taught here, from sciences to arts and the humanities creates an intellectually stimulating environment.

Other highlights include excellent food, charismatic porters and purpose-built accommodation able to hold all three years. The environment is incredibly welcoming, with staff and students aiming to dispel any myths that Oxford colleges must always be forbidding places.

The College is one of the few undergraduate colleges in Oxford without its own chapel, which adds to the inclusive and diverse feel of the place. Its large size means that all needs can be met on the college site, especially with the immense bar, which is the largest of all college bars.

Buzzing with energy, the atmosphere of the college is enhanced by its location. It's a little tucked away down Manor Road, but its proximity to green space (backing onto Addison's Walk and Merton Playing fields) means that it is without traffic noise and occasional feeling of claustrophobia that more central colleges have to put up with.
