Catz Fellow Awarded Palmes Académiques

Catz Fellow Richard Parish, Professor of French and Tutor at St Catherine’s College, has been promoted to the rank of Commandeur dans l'ordre des palmes académiques by the Maison Française d’Oxford (MFO). The MFO aims to promote a better understanding between the British and French people by boosting cooperation between academics and students from the two countries, with a focus on Franco-British scientific and cultural cooperation.

The MFO held its traditional garden party on Saturday 20 June, at which the Palmes académiques insignia was awarded to Richard and two other British researchers. Sylvie Bermann, the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, paid tribute to Richard Parish for being an untiring promoter of classical French culture (and wine-making) throughout his career. An expert in the Grand Siècle, he is also a connoisseur of French wines; a skill that the Ambassador was keen to point out!
