Lord Stern elected President of the British Academy

Honorary Fellow Baron Stern of Brentford (Tutor in Economics, 1970-77) has been elected President of the British Academy. He will take up the four-year appointment in June 2013.

Leading economist and academic Lord Stern is currently IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government and Chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change at the Environment at the London School of Economics (LSE). He is the author of the seminal Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change (2006) which spoke of the ‘overwhelming evidence that climate change presents very serious global risks, demanding an urgent global response’.

Lord Stern served as Chief Economist of the World Bank (2000-03), following a similar appointment at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and teaching posts at Oxford and Warwick universities, and the London School of Economics.
