Michael Sullivan Celebrated in Ashmolean Exhibition

Former Emeritus Fellow of St Catherine's, Professor Michael Sullivan, who passed away in September 2013, is to be commemorated in an exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

The exhibition, entitled Michael Sullivan: A Life of Art and Friendship, opens on Tuesday 11 March and will run until September 2014. It will showcase a new selection of works from the outstanding collection of modern Chinese art that was bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum by Professor Sullivan.

Professor Sullivan, a leading authority of contemporary Chinese art, built up the collection alongside his wife, Khoan, over a period of seven decades. Many of the works were gifted to him by prominent Chinese artists, and a large number have never been in exhibited in public.

The Sullivan Collection, which comprises more than four-hundred works of art, is currently being preserved and prepared at the Ashmolean Museum.
