Lightweight Boat Race success

Two St Catz students were part of the Oxford University Lightweight teams that raced against Cambridge at the Henley Boat Races on Saturday. In what is the lightweight version of the event that will be taking place on the Tideway next weekend, Anna Corderoy (2013, English) coxed the women’s team to victory over their Fenland rivals. Following a truly nail-biting race, they beat Cambridge by 6ft (a canvas) having been down by half a length for 1700m of the race and therefore managed to bring the trophy home to Oxford.

Anna commented, “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with such an incredible team this year. After last year’s defeat, we were absolutely determined to put that trophy back on the wall and it just goes to show that a race is never over until one boat crosses the line!”

Meanwhile, Lucy Roberts (2013, Geography) raced in the first ever reserve pair race. Although they sadly lost by 3/4 length, it was nonetheless a huge achievement.
