Dr Ben Bollig launches new books

Ben Bollig, Tutor in Spanish, has recently launched two new books at an event at Espacio Enjambre an arts space in Buenos Aires. The Foreign Passion, published by Influx Press (London), is his bilingual edition of a new collection, La pasión extranjera, by the Argentine poet Cristian Aliaga.

The collection was triggered by Aliaga’s travels around the British Isles and continental Europe during a visiting professorship at the University of Leeds. Aliaga also visited Oxford, where he spoke at the Taylor Institute and met students of Spanish at Catz. Influx is an independent publisher specialising in works about geography and place, by emerging writers or those new to a UK audience.

Accompanied by Aliaga himself, and the novelist Carlos Gamerro, author of the recently published Cardenio, Dr Bollig also presented Antropófagos en las islas (Cannibals in the Islands), a collection of contemporary British poetry translated into Spanish with his Catz colleague, Alejandra Crosta. Bollig gave readings of the English-language originals, accompanied in Spanish by the actress and publisher Paulina Aliaga. Antropófagos is published in Chubut, Argentina, by Espacio Hudson, a member of the Argentine Independent Publishers Cooperative.

Further events are planned at the Taylor Institution in Oxford and the Argentine Embassy in London to marks these publications.
